 Saturday Picnic
Author: Nancy (Nehring) Waddell

Hiya folks!!!! I have been working fast and furious on the picnic but I have not received anymore suggestions other than West Lake Beach.

Here is what I have so far: the price for the Pavillion (which is covered) is $7 for adults and $4 for kids. Now, depending on how many people RSVP, will determine if we get a price break. For example.... if we have 300 people attend( I have no clue what to give this lady on a head count) they will close the entire park and beach to the public. The cost for the entire beach is $1800- that would make it $5 per adult. Does anybody have the headcount for the picnic last year? One thought I had was to see if maybe the Anderson class of 79 might want to go splitsville with us. The more people that go the cheaper it is...My personal opinion would be to close the park to the public and we have one big private party... let me know what you guys think.... We need to decide VERY soon, as other schools are wanting to reserve the park.

Close to beach to the public for us for $5?

That's less than I thought it would be. Will the picnic be catered?

Richard,

$5 bucks for ON THE WATER. They do not cater but if I remember correctly (2 hours into the last meeting and a couple of mexican martinis later) someone mentioned BBQ-ing. There are plenty of pits there and they would probably let us bring our own. (I will check into that). We need to decide if we want the space or not and then decide on the food. Maybe the reunion could "fund" for some briskets (and a couple of kegs...lol) and maybe we could get voluteers for the sides. Anyway,I really think that this is an inexpensive way to go for a fun in the sun saturday. You guys keep the mail coming!!!!

I think the idea of throwing in some cash for briskets and KEGS is great. $5/head for a private park is well worth a day of fun in the sun. I vote for that.
Don't know if kicking in with Anderson would be 'all that' though. Am kind of looking forward to seeing the Lanier crowd.
I would be willing to bring a 'side' to share, or just tell all to bring a side for their group. Either way.
Those Mexican Marguaritas sound good too. :)

Nancy, Darrell and I can cook the meat for the picnic if that is what we decide to do.
Just let us know. I hope this is ok with Darrell I did not ask him.

Is Westlake Beach located off Redbud Trail? Did we have any portion of the 10th Reunion over there or am I more confused that normal?

Westlake Beach looks good to me. It doesn't look too out-of-the-way but still on the water. I'd prefer that we'd have the event catered and spend a bit more per ticket/head, it sure would reduce the amount of work involved because I'm sure we (Lanier '79) would still be responsible for the clean-up. Thanks for the great work Nancy!

It took me a second to find the links to the pictures of Westlake Beach. Not to be trite, but a picture speaks a thousand words, so hopefully this helps others:

I'm in favor of this. The pictures make me wish we could do it this weekend.

I really think we're going to have a very large turnout.

Richard,

I would be happy to go and pay a deposit to at least hold the park until after the meeting on Thursday. I can always get it back if we decide not to do it. The problem is that all of the other schools are now booking thier reunions. Tell me what think.

If...

1. our deposit is not at risk
2. we may lose the booking opportunity by waiting
3. no one has suggested a better place

then I think we ought to put down a deposit on it. I'm not sure what argument could be made for not doing that.

I'd run the idea past Kim Herber, Christine Muniz and Shane and then do it.

Richard,

I too think that we will have more of turn out than we did at the 20th. I have a call in to Andrea at Westlake Beach now. If the deposit is not at risk (which I dont believe it is), then I will run out there tomorrow. We have plenty of time to work out the food.

I went ahead and booked Westlake Beach. The Park will be closed to the public and any other parties, so bring on the Lanier Class of 1979 and thier off-spring...lol

We will talk about this more on Thursday as we have some other things to plan for the picnic.

Mr. Willie...

Since the 20th reunion (and your comment about kissing me would be like kissing your sister). I have had to invest all of my "mexican martini" money on therapy....just a little FYI...lol

ok. here is the "beef" for the food on saturday at the picnic. All of the quotes that I have gotten are basically the same- except for "Yogi's (my favorite). He will charge $6.50 per plate and will not charge tax if we pay with cash. This will include 1/4lb of brisket, 1/4 lb sausage, beans, potatoe salad, beans, pickles, jalapenos, onions, bread, plates, plastic wear and napkins. This will be a buffet style so we need to make sure that we have enough. His experience has been that some people over-indulge therefore a shortage of food. My suggestion is (and this is only a suggestion) is that we go ahead and charge $650 a plate period. This will include kiddos. Also, on all of the bids it was MUCH cheaper if we picked up the food and the place that was cooking didnt have to be there to serve. i am fine with picking up the food. We may want to get volunteers to bring tea and/or ice, otherwise everybody needs to bring thier own drinks. Anyway, whatever we do, the caterers will need a deposit of $300. Let me know what yall think and I will go ahead and pay that.

I trust you to select the best deal, Nancy.

There are a couple people who've asked me about the lunch plates... they are concerned that they will have to pay for an adult plate for their little kids.

I'm not sure what to tell them except that if they have two kids maybe they can split the plates.

I can see that, from the caterer's point of view, it's kind of irrelevant.

BTW, I've seen of few pictures from the 20th picnic and it looks like it was catered self-serve.

At the 20th, my husband and I bought plates and we brought a lunchable or something for my young stepson who doesn't care for barbeque. He won't be coming this year, but that's our plan again. My husband and I will buy plates and share with my four year old daughter and bring her crackers and lunchables and snacky things and we can bring a cooler with drinks. That's my vote!

OK people... the time is near. It is time to wrap up loose ends. For those of you who would be kind enough, we need some donated charcoal to keep the meat hot..... (yes Angie, I hear you giggling at that comment). Also, feel free to bring extra ice (I know, I know.... the beer wont have time to get hot). Those of us that have attended the meetings have practiced really hard at getting back into drinking shape. I think we have it mastered. Anyway, I am so looking forward to this weekend. It's going to be a blast. For those of you that are reading this and have not registered..... shame on you!
